About Me
Governor's Award Ceremony, June 2, 2011
I grew up in the small town of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. I began working in my father's restaurant at the age of fourteen and have continued working, both in and out of the restaurant business, ever since. From this I gained a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills and passion for meeting and interacting with others.
While in high school I acquired a passion for the Spanish language and culture through my language classes. I followed this interest in college with a major in Spanish. During the Fall of 2009, my studies provided me the incredible opportunity to spend a semester abroad in Valladolid, Spain, an experience that further validated my love for the language.
I graduated from Bloomsburg University in May 2010 with a B.A. in Spanish and minors in Anthropology and Latin American Studies. Shortly after graduation I embarked on another life-changing adventure, this time as an AmeriCorps VISTA with the non-profit organization, Adelante Hispanic Achievers, in Louisville, Kentucky. The year was the most challenging and rewarding experience of my life through which I discovered my love for teaching and challenging students to reach their full potential.
I obtained a graduate-level P.A. teaching certification from West Chester University and am currently teaching Spanish I, II and Spanish for Native Speakers at Oxford Area High School in Oxford, PA.
